John L. Pangani a.k.a. "The African Teacher", RAW#1736, Reggae Street DJ on WSND 88.9 FM, Music Promoter, Chairman of Pangani Foundation, Inc., owner of Karibu Cuisine, and Real Estate Broker Associate for Polack Realty, ignited the spirit of Reggae in Northern Indiana communities by founding and sponsoring The Annual "South Bend Annual Reggae Festival", a venue which serves to awaken and unite people of different race, religion, nationality, color, and age providing the opportunity for all to dance and chant as one to the same tune. This event is getting bigger every year. 2008 was a year of honor when the City of South Bend Mayor, Steve Luecke came and endorsed this event as one of the best and well attended multicultural and the only Reggae Festival in the state of Indiana to date. Popular International Reggae artists such as King Yellowman, The Original Wailers, Pato Banton, Tosh 1 (Peter Tosh's son) have performed on this event.
Vision: Michiana Reggae presents live music events to raise money for The Pangani Foundation, Inc., under section 501 (c)(3) located in South Bend, Indiana, USA. This foundation was originally formed in 2005. It targets the hospitals and schools in Malawi - Central Africa (The home of David - Pop Star Madonna's adopted True Born African son). The mission is to help some of Malawi schools and hospitals with small supplies such as blankets, bed sheets, kitchen utensils, sanitation gloves, syringes, surgical utensils, over the counter medicine. In school, we target remote area in building pit latrines (toilets), well waters and school supplies for the teachers and students. It also helps the local churches and Food Bank of Northern Indiana in letting them to join and host thier fund raisers for thier cause.
In the past years, we have supplied hospitals with blankets after we noticed the shortage of hospitals linens and blankets. The beneficiary of this first project was Mulanje District Hospital located in Southern region of Malawi. Mulanje district is blessed with the beautiful mount Mulanje. It's highest peak, Sapitwa attracts a lot of mountain climbers all over the world. The bottom of this mountain is dressed with the tea and coffee plantations. Mulanje has the best Malawi fruits plantations such as bananas, pineapple, sugar canes, pears, mangoes just to mention a few.
We salute the St. Joseph Hospital Medical Center and Children of Abraham for joining our team force. They donated medical supplies and equipment for Malawi. The container was loaded and set aboard heading Malawi May 2008. It arrived and unloaded on November 3rd, 2008. Respect to all of you who came to help sorting and loading this shipment. Thanks go to the Mulanje Mission Hospital staff for a good communication throughout the transactions. Those who help to unload everything from the container, may the force be with you. Same respect goes to all our events sponsors. Advance thanks to all individuals and organisations who wants to join hands with us to make a difference for the needy both local and across the oceans.
We recently built two five doors brick toilets at Mpondas Primary School in Mangochi district, Malawi in 2009/10. These toilets accomodates the entire school of approximately 800 students. One unit is for boys and the other for girls.
